Book Review : The Queen

How I loved this book!!

clip_image002

When I get a book in the mail, I typically have between two and three weeks to read it before I am expected to post my review.  The day I received the Queen, I started reading (despite the other books in line in front of this one) and I finished it the next day.

This is not to say that Steven James writes an “easy to read” book – this is to say that I went to bed about 11pm – I read every minute I could and I think Robert cooked dinner that night too.  I could not put this book down.

Critically acclaimed author Steven James has written four other award-winning Patrick Bowers novels as well as many works of nonfiction. He has a master’s degree in storytelling and has taught writing and creative storytelling on three continents. He lives near the Blue Ridge Mountains of Tennessee with his wife and three daughters.

I love Steven James.  I love his writing!!

This is the fourth book in the Patrick Bowers Thriller Series.  I have loved every one before this as well.  If you have not been along on the journey up to now, you could still pick up the Queen and enjoy it just as well.  But I suspect, you will be so enthralled, you will rush out to get the others!

Steven James writes a great book with intrigue, wonderful characters, and enough thrill to keep you turning pages even if you are supposed to be cooking dinner!

This story takes place in Northern Wisconsin, and it involves a former military base that was “supposedly” closed down, some evil bad guys, the hero Patrick Bowers and his FBI buddies, and his step-daughter Tessa.

I love the depth of FBI knowledge that helps to illustrate exactly who Patrick Bowers is.  I find just about everything about him and his step daughter fascinating to include their deepening relationship. This is a Christian Fiction book, but it is not preachy in any way.  The Christian tones are subtle, but there.

Honestly, this is one of my favorite authors and I absolutely love his books!  If you enjoy fiction with some thrill, suspense and great characters you will not want to miss this book!!

Here is more information about this book:

Murder in a small town has worldwide implications

The Queen is the latest Patrick Bowers thriller

from the author Publishers Weekly calls a “master storyteller at the peak of his game.”

It’s freezing in a small, Northern Wisconsin town when Patrick Bowers is called in to investigate a double homicide not far from his brother’s home. The local law enforcement thinks this is an open-and-shut case: a family is murdered and the missing father is their main suspect.

Once on scene, Bowers suspects there’s more to the story. For one thing, it’s only been a few hours and the Chief of Naval Operations is pressuring the FBI Director to have agents look into the case.

The high-tech conspiracy Bowers uncovers ties together long-buried Cold War secrets with present-day tensions in the Middle East and rocks one small town. The Queen (ISBN: 978-0-8007-1920-3, $14.99, 528 pages, September) by Steven James will have readers turning pages as they try to keep up with Bowers.
